SEE WHAT 2016 WANT YOU TO GRABB BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE

(published: https://www.naij.com/1079902-these-steps-help-truth-matter-life.html)

This year has been a generous and wonderful one, loaded with bulk of propitious and fact revealing messages. My favorite quote is a scriptural declaration of a practical fact, and it says, “you will know the truth and the truth will make you free”. I so much love that quote because It is practical. It is experimental. It is the truth. It’s tested and trusted. Believe me, it works. Ignorance puts a man in bandage, but truth liberates. I always use this analogy whenever I talk or write about the important of knowing the truth; “if you are enjoying your ice-cream, and you want to keep your little kid away from it while you go inside to check something in the kitchen. Do you know that you can simply keep the child away from touching your ice-cream by demonstrating to the child that the ice-cream is very hot? But in truth, was the ice-cream hot? In fact, would an ice-cream ever be served hot? No! you can say No because I know the truth about ice-cream. But what about a little and innocent kid who doesn’t know anything about ice-cream. Ofcourse, he may know that ice-cream is sweet, but you can keep him away by faking him that it is very hot this time around. And he watches over the ice-cream until you return. In a similar way, you becomes a fool when you lack the truth about what you suppose to know.”People perish because they lack wisdom “.

Let me give you another common analogy. Long time ago when we were growing up as kids in the village, our parents used to rear those local fowls. How? They go to the market and purchase about two or three chickens. Then they bring them home, tie rope round one of the legs, and tie the other end of the rope to a stick. The chickens remain tied for some days to make them get used to the new home, so that whenever they go out, they will be able to return back home without been lost. During those few days, the chickens are usually well taken care of. But what can be compare to freedom? Their movement is restricted to the length of the rope. They recieve lots of punishments from other fowls around. They can not run, they can not hide. So they are vulnerable to suffering. After few days, the chickens are untied. But something surprising is that, even without rope on their legs, these chickens couldn’t move beyond the point they usually stop during those days when the rope was still on their legs. We will have to push them and send them away before they started to work freely. Why? Because they lack the truth. They didn’t known that they can now move freely because the rope is removed. They thought they will never be able to walk around freely again. Their brain, their thinking, their mentality has been reprogrammed to believe that they are always under restriction. You remain in a cage as a result of your ignorance. But the moment you know the truth, your liberty follows immediately. When we pushed those chickens and they walked some few distance away, then their thinking changed, and they realized that they are now free. When they knew this truth, the truth set them free indeed.

“You will know the truth and the truth will set you free”. Now that you know the cost of ignorance and the wonder of knowing the truth, the next thing is to ask yourself, how can I know the truth about things that matter in life. How do I know the truth? Simple! The answer is wrapped in this scriptural passage; “Faith comes by hearing …….” What you always listen to soon becomes your belief and your philosophy of life. Another passage gives another but similar answer to how you can know the truth. It says, “This book…must not depart from your hand……read day and night”. That’s all. The best two ways to know the truth are through hearing and reading. Now be sincere, how many seminar have you attended in your life time? How many books have you read before? And you want to be great. Sorry, wake up from your nightmare. If you are not reading, you are only jeopardising your future. Because another Scripture says, “…….to give you an expected end”. But what are you expecting if you’re wasting away your life now? Don’t forget that scriptural passage which says, “Man is what he thinks in his heart”. And you know that it is what you know that defines what you will think and what you know is what you hear or read about. You can never be greater than your thinking. Won’t you rather start reading now so that you can think big and better?

Where will I start from? Is that your question? Well, PURPOSE LIFE MEDIA (purposelifemedia2015.WordPress.com OR fb.me/gbadebodahunsi) is the answer. GBADEBO’S DIARY; a great lesson from Jenifa’s diary

Right from the childhood, I am not used to spending time in front of TV. I hardly get to the middle of a two-hours movie before I cross to the dreamland and deeply asleep. Though this rare idiosyncrasy was rather compelled than learned. And I should be faithful enough to let you know that such a trait came not as a sign of over-seriousness but a sign of impecuniousness, because we usually trek some kilometers away from home before we could finally find a place to watch TV. But it has being highly advantageous anyway. Usually, I am lagging when it comes to talking about the latest or trendy movies. I could remember that throughout my five-years stay in the University, I only struggle to complete just two season films; Merling and Spartacus namely. Like I said before, this trait has helped me in many ways. Giving me more time to spend on many more important things.

But early this year, something happened. A movie (Nigerian soap opera) went pandemic. And it was so widely spread that people usually reserve a quantity of fuel in their generator to keep up to date with the movie, even when power supply isn’t always available. Even in the village where I was serving (during my NYSC program), no child want to miss a single episode of it. The movie gained so much popularity that it became too difficult for me to resist the pressure from various friends telling me to try watching it. Then I agreed to give it a trial. And you know what? A trial truly convinced me, as a found JENIFA’S DIARY unputdownable. So I requested for season two. And after, season three, four and five.

I can’t just afford to miss any of the episodes of Jenifa’s diary, not only because of its funniness, of course, it can make you pee before getting to the toilet. No dispute about that. But it is also highly educative and informative. Full of series of important lessons worthy of emulation. But it is unfortunate that many people only enjoy its hilarity, and pay less or no attention to the bulk of ‘take-home’ lessons embedded inside each episode. In fact, what most people, especially our young ladies, learned from Jenifa’s diary was how to speak bad English. But there’s actually much more to Jenifa’s diary than just ‘watch to laugh.’ It teaches many crucial life lessons which include goal setting, planning for the future, having a good vision and ambition in life. It also teaches morality such as kicking against smoking, alcohol consumption and drug abuse. It also discourages flirting and ‘sugar daddy’ practices among the students in the higher institutions. It teaches a lot about love, relationship and marriage. And these lessons are very important in life.

But there’s one particular serendipitous lesson which many people may not pay much attention to. It is the Jenifa’s diary itself. You will notice that Jenifa always make use of that her big diary. She use it to take record of both what has happened to her and what she intends doing in the future. Many of you may not know why she’s doing that. But I’ve learned a big lessóñ from that. Having a personal diary or jotting note is very important and auspicious. Though I have been using a personal diary/note since few years from now, but Jenifa diary has broadened my understanding about the important of keeping note. And now, I make more and frequent use of my diary/note than I used to do before. In fact, my personal diary now has different categories which include future plans, books to write, chronicle of life, things to buy, skills to learn, and many others. Why is having a personal diary/note so important? Keeping personal note or diary helps to relieve ones brain from carrying unnecessary burden. It gives your brain enough free space to concieve new idea and give you enough free time to do other important things.

For example, jotting down everything you plan to do the next day inside your diary or a personal note as soon as you remember them will save you from forgetting important ideas. And this will make you more productive. In the case of any forgetfulness, you can easily access your note /diary to find out what and what you’ve planned to do. Sometimes we waste great ideas because we do not care to put them down, and so we forget them. This could be painful and even disastrous. But to avoid wasting ideas, start practicing personal diary/note. And always remember to put down any idea that pop into your mind. Put down your schedule for the next day. Write down your budget and analyze how you will spend your money. Make a list of all the items you need to acquire in their preferential order. What are the things you think you need to learn? jot them down. Which area of your life do you feel that you need to improve on? Kindly put it down so that you won’t forget. Try using a personal diary today and see how helpful it is. Before I drop my pen, I want to commend Funke Akindele (Jenifa), for coming up with such an informative, educative and very funny made in Nigeria soap opera—Jenifa’s diary. Jenifa, ‘I pride in you’, lol.

TRULY, CHANGE BEGINS WITH YOU!

l could remember vividly that immediately after the swearing in of the president elect—Muhammodu Buhari in 2015, I published an article on my blog and also shared it on Facebook to ensure that the message get across to as many people as possible. “Change that only WE can bring” was the title of that write up. I can’t really recall what induced me to write such a thing, but I guess it was as a result of my observation that Nigerians are expecting thaumaturgical transformations from the new man. I don’t know who on earth invented the “Change mantra” for the mega party and for president Buhari’s campaign. But whosoever did, such person is nothing else but a genius because he knew exactly what Nigerians needed and craving for at that particular time. Nigerians have seen enough of bad and failed leaderships. We can’t just afford to continue with the same unpropitious government that we’ve been experiencing for a long period of time. We need a change. And with a perfect timing, they came to us in the name of what we want-change!

https://www.naij.com/1077486-buhari-change-begins.htmlChange!

This word sounds as if it was newly introduced into the English dictionary, as the whole atmosphere was saturated with the change mantra. And so, we followed the change and voted for the change because all we wanted was change. Immediately after the election, Nigerians felt a great sense of relief because we’ve successfully chosen what we wanted. Our expectation was to see everything we need happening with immediate effect. But as a scientist and a final year Biochemistry student at that time, I was able to use my Biochemistry skills to make a forensic view of what Nigerians were expecting from the “Change” man—Buhari. They put too much expectations on the man. We are expecting sudden or magical changes. But I knew it right from the genesis that Buhari is just a man and not God. And no man can do all that’s expected. No man can provide all our wants. No man can satisfy all men. He can only try his best. And this change we’re talking about, is a process. In fact, a gradual process and not what could happen overnight as we expected, But change occurs over a period of time.

Let me give you this simple and perfect analogy of how change occurs. Before a butterfly becomes an adult butterfly with different bright and attractive colours, it passes through different developmental stages or processes. First, the egg changes to Larva, which is known as caterpillar. This again changes to Pupa and finally to an adult butterfly with attractive coloration.

This series of change is called metamorphosis in biology. And it is never an easy process. Who can ever believe that caterpillar—a highly destructive organism, is just a stage in the life cycle of butterfly—a brightly decorated insect with a vital agricultural advantage? That’s what change does. So I still believe that Nigeria will soon get there. Though things may seem too harsh at present, but I know that very soon, our country will be better. Because I view all what we’re experiencing now as a metamorphic process that will surely transform our dear country—Nigeria, to what we want it to be. We all want a better Nigeria. We want a Nation with stable power supply, good road network, standard education, employment opportunities, good health delivery services, good security etc. All these are possible. In fact, we will soon get there.
But don’t forget that Buhari alone can never give us all we wanted. No! The change we want is not the responsibility of Buhari, Osinbajo, Saraki, Kemi Adeosun, Fashola, or Amechi alone. Thank God that Mr president has voice out that the change he promised begins with us—change begins with you. The change we want can only be achieved through a collective efforts of every Nigerian. This country us ours. It is our fatherland. We must come together in oneness of mind to build this Nation. Rather than allowing political differences and ethnicity to tear us apart. Instead of blaming and cursing our leaders, why can’t we just express how we feel in a moderate way, and never cease to pray for our Nation? No one is pleased with what is happening in Nigeria of today, but always remember that two wrongs can never make a right. So if we think that they are doing the wrong things, let us do the right things while we pray to God to deliver our land. Let desist from saying, making or posting negative things about this country. Let stop cursing our leaders. Let us play our own part to make this Nigeria great again.

Before I use the final full stop, let me remind you that change is a process and it is usually not an easy one, but at the end, all will be well with our Nation. Just believe and change your negative mindset and your attitude because the change you are looking for begins right there inside of you. Change begins with you.

WE THE YOUTHS CAN SAVE NIGERIA

History is advantageous. It exposes us to what has happened in the past, so that we may prevent every avoidable mistakes or errors committed by those who were before us. But do we need to go back to the class to study history as a subject? No. All we need to do is to ensure that we always keep ourselves informed about what’s happening in the world around us. From the history, I realized that many years back Nigeria was doing well as a Nation, at least to an extent. Despite the fact that I didn’t witness those years, I still believe strongly in the story, not because my parent told us the story, but because I knew that Nigeria wouldn’t have been given such a gigantic chieftaincy tittle as the ‘Giant of Africa’ if not that the Nation was really doing fine that time. In those days, things were going pretty smoothly for the Nation, simply because ‘all hands are on deck’ to make sure that Nigeria was growing.

Everyone was working earnestly in accordance with one of the lines of our National pledge which says ‘..to service Nigeria with all my strength.’ The farmers were busy with their works to ensure that there is enough food for local consumption and for export. The teachers were teaching to impart necessary knowledge on the students to give the Nation best, reliable and employable set of graduates. Those occupying various offices were also doing their jobs as expected. In fact, the government was not left out in the effort to ensure that Nigeria grow to an enviable height.

And truly the Nation was growing. Nigeria was able to feed her citizens through agricultural practices and the Nation also exports products such as cocoa, coffee, oil palm and many others. With our true commitment in agriculture, everything was going well because God has bestowed us with a fertile land which supports all sort of agricultural crops.

Again, our creator proved to us how much he loves Nigeria through crude oil exploration. And in my little perspicacity, I think the oil exploration suppose to be a great blessing to our Nation and a strong catalyst for Nation building. I hope you agree with me? But unfortunately, reverse is the case. This is melancholic. What then has eventuated to Nigeria’s present predicament? Series of bad governments. In the early 1970s, Nigeria began to experience a steep drop in agricultural production while relying solely on oil revenue. Whereas according to history, Nigeria had been the world’s lead exporter of cocoa, but production of this cash crop dropped by 43%, while productivity in other important income generators like rubber (29%), groundnuts (64%), and cotton (65%) dropped as well between 1972 and 1983. The decline in agricultural production was not limited to cash crops amid the oil boom, and national output of staple foodstuffs also fell. The drop in production was so substantial that by the early 1980s the (Shagari’s) NPN government was forced to implement a now notorious import license scheme which essentially involved Nigeria, for the first time in its history, importing basic food items. That’s the onset of Nigeria’s atrophy. Today, we’re all suffering from the consequence of actions of our shallow minded leaders with myopic or lack of vision. They were blindfolded by the ‘quick money’ flowing from oil revenue, thereby abandoned agriculture and other aspects of the economy. After years of prodigiously wasteful spending and embezzlement, without any reservation, they rendered Nigeria impecunious. Now our Nation is experiencing economic recession. There is hunger everywhere. The youths are jobless. Hardship now flooded the land which was once known as a land of milk and honey. What then can we do in a situation like this?
The youths could save this Nation. Several people have suggested different possible solutions to the present Nigeria’s condition. But today, I want to add my own proposition to the list. But my suggestion is directed to individual (most especially, the youths), in contrast to the various suggested solutions directed to the government. And mine is very simple. in fact, it may sounds too simple to be taken as a solution. But it is actually one. “Use your gift”. That’s it. If everyone of us could be doing what we know how to do, Nigeria will rise again. Thank God for the recent trait among the youths, the harsh condition has forced many of us to be utilizing our cognitive skills to make things happen. We now produce many local products. I now see talented youths exploring their talents, and making something helpful with them. Those who have the gift to sing are now singing, those who know how to act are now acting. Many who can play musical instruments are now doing well in that aspect. If we can put more efforts in doing what we know to do and using our talents, no doubt that this Nation will rise again. Where are the inventors of our time? We need you. Nigerians are talented and educated enough to be inventors. The Wright brothers who invented the Aircraft didn’t go to the university, not even Polytechnic (OND). Nigeria is in need of you this time more than ever before. Let come together to build this Nation. We want to be proud of our made in Nigeria products. Do you make shoes? Please continue making it. Are you a talented writer? Please write to address important issues that may bring positive changes to Nigeria. If you are a good fashion designer, please make stylish clothes for us. Anything you know how to do, please start doing it now for the development of our dear country—Nigeria. If our Nation is not strong enough to help us at this moment, let us change our thinking to how we can help our Nation.
It is my belief that if we, the youths, can stand up and determine to rescue this Nation, we will definitely achieve that. We are youths. We have the strength. The knowledge is there. We are skillful and highly creative. With our strength, knowledge, skills and creativity, we can save this Nation. Let commence the ‘rescue mission’ now!
