TRULY, CHANGE BEGINS WITH YOU!

l could remember vividly that immediately after the swearing in of the president elect—Muhammodu Buhari in 2015, I published an article on my blog and also shared it on Facebook to ensure that the message get across to as many people as possible. “Change that only WE can bring” was the title of that write up. I can’t really recall what induced me to write such a thing, but I guess it was as a result of my observation that Nigerians are expecting thaumaturgical transformations from the new man. I don’t know who on earth invented the “Change mantra” for the mega party and for president Buhari’s campaign. But whosoever did, such person is nothing else but a genius because he knew exactly what Nigerians needed and craving for at that particular time. Nigerians have seen enough of bad and failed leaderships. We can’t just afford to continue with the same unpropitious government that we’ve been experiencing for a long period of time. We need a change. And with a perfect timing, they came to us in the name of what we want-change!

https://www.naij.com/1077486-buhari-change-begins.htmlChange!

This word sounds as if it was newly introduced into the English dictionary, as the whole atmosphere was saturated with the change mantra. And so, we followed the change and voted for the change because all we wanted was change. Immediately after the election, Nigerians felt a great sense of relief because we’ve successfully chosen what we wanted. Our expectation was to see everything we need happening with immediate effect. But as a scientist and a final year Biochemistry student at that time, I was able to use my Biochemistry skills to make a forensic view of what Nigerians were expecting from the “Change” man—Buhari. They put too much expectations on the man. We are expecting sudden or magical changes. But I knew it right from the genesis that Buhari is just a man and not God. And no man can do all that’s expected. No man can provide all our wants. No man can satisfy all men. He can only try his best. And this change we’re talking about, is a process. In fact, a gradual process and not what could happen overnight as we expected, But change occurs over a period of time.

Let me give you this simple and perfect analogy of how change occurs. Before a butterfly becomes an adult butterfly with different bright and attractive colours, it passes through different developmental stages or processes. First, the egg changes to Larva, which is known as caterpillar. This again changes to Pupa and finally to an adult butterfly with attractive coloration.

This series of change is called metamorphosis in biology. And it is never an easy process. Who can ever believe that caterpillar—a highly destructive organism, is just a stage in the life cycle of butterfly—a brightly decorated insect with a vital agricultural advantage? That’s what change does. So I still believe that Nigeria will soon get there. Though things may seem too harsh at present, but I know that very soon, our country will be better. Because I view all what we’re experiencing now as a metamorphic process that will surely transform our dear country—Nigeria, to what we want it to be. We all want a better Nigeria. We want a Nation with stable power supply, good road network, standard education, employment opportunities, good health delivery services, good security etc. All these are possible. In fact, we will soon get there.
But don’t forget that Buhari alone can never give us all we wanted. No! The change we want is not the responsibility of Buhari, Osinbajo, Saraki, Kemi Adeosun, Fashola, or Amechi alone. Thank God that Mr president has voice out that the change he promised begins with us—change begins with you. The change we want can only be achieved through a collective efforts of every Nigerian. This country us ours. It is our fatherland. We must come together in oneness of mind to build this Nation. Rather than allowing political differences and ethnicity to tear us apart. Instead of blaming and cursing our leaders, why can’t we just express how we feel in a moderate way, and never cease to pray for our Nation? No one is pleased with what is happening in Nigeria of today, but always remember that two wrongs can never make a right. So if we think that they are doing the wrong things, let us do the right things while we pray to God to deliver our land. Let desist from saying, making or posting negative things about this country. Let stop cursing our leaders. Let us play our own part to make this Nigeria great again.

Before I use the final full stop, let me remind you that change is a process and it is usually not an easy one, but at the end, all will be well with our Nation. Just believe and change your negative mindset and your attitude because the change you are looking for begins right there inside of you. Change begins with you.

IF NIGERIA WOULD BE GREAT AGAIN; PAY YOUR DEBT

How pathetic it is to see a ‘giant’ rolling helplessly on the ground, crying out loud and begging for a bailout.  This is the exact present condition of our dear Nation-Nigeria which was once known as ‘GIANT OF AFRICA’. But today, Nigeria is in a state of moribund, now needed to be attended to immediately and treated as a matter of urgency. The question we all need to ask ourselves now is, ‘who and who are responsible for this lamentable predicament?’ Since nobody is ready to accept being part of the cause of the problem. One party is blaming the other. Followers keep pointing fingers at their Past and present leaders as the cause of all calamities befalling the Nation today.

Corruption they said, is the major cause of our problem. In fact, corruption Is the cane used by our leaders to torment Nigerians in the same way Goliath was disturbing the peace of the Israelites in that popular Bible story—David and Goliath. No wonder the name Nigeria is so notorious in the entire world for her unchallengeable skills in corruption. Even with that, all of us still claim to be innocent. Putting blames on someone else, and that person put it on yet, another person. So on and so forth, the blaming continues. So tell me, Who is now corrupt?

Yes, we watch them on TV. We read news, and we hear about them, time to time. Those we trusted but who betrayed our trust. They are the so called leaders who actually are killers. They have first class degree in stealing. Emptying our treasury to fill their pockets and that of their wives and children alone for quite a long period of time without being noticed. But I personally thank God for permitting the present administration to set up a ‘throne of judgment’ here on earth (in Nigeria) even before we all appear before the general throne of judgment which in heaven. I’m not saying this man (president Buhari) is an innocent, no! What I meant was that I salute his courage to initiate this fight against corruption when it is most needed. And today, many have started returning those ridiculously huge amount of money stollen in millions and in billions. But where are the remaining money? They promised to pay back as soon as possible. That means they are owning Nigeria, and so, they are debtors. Did you just say that’s true?

But we are all debtors you know? Are you asking how? Truly you may not have any case with EFCC. In fact, DSS may not come to raid our house. But that does not make you and I innocent because we are all owing Nigeria in one way or the other. “Nigeria is bankrupt today not only In term of ‘leger tender’ but also in terms of Faithfulness, Loyalty and Honesty. All of which are the promises we make to our Nation everyday but fail to fulfil.”_Gbadebo Dahunsi. You can quote me anywhere.

Or have we forgotten so soon that ‘promise is a debt?’ So any promise you fail to fulfill becomes a debt, thereby making you a debtor. Simple. Everyone of us says the National pledge, almost everyday. Especially, while we were in primary or secondary School. And we say;

I PLEDGE to Nigeria my Country, To be FAITHFUL, LOYAL and HONEST To SERVE Nigeria with all my STRENGTH To DEFEND her UNITY and UPHOLD her HONOR and GLORY. So help me God.

Is that not a promise? But how many of us fulfill those promises? Our failure to keep those promises Is what gave birth to all sort of corrupt practices we see in our Nation today. Can you now see that we are all part of the problem? And now, we are reaping what we’ve planted in the past and the Whole condition now seems unbearable. What then can we do? There is hope. Yes there is a way out of our present predicament. Nigeria could rise again and reclaim her lost glory—GIANT OF AFRICA, if and only if we are all ready to repent, change and pay up our debts by fulfilling all the promises which are in our National pledge.

If our politicians can be faithful. If you and I are Loyal. If all security agents can serve with all their strengths. If we can all defend Nigeria’s Unity and uphold her honor and glory. If corruption can be attenuated, then Nigeria would rise again. As a young man who loves his Nation, I strongly believe in a better Nigeria. But if Nigeria would be great again; let us all start fulfilling our pledges. I want this message to get across to every Nigerian, both home and abroad. Let our politicians see it. You can start paying your debt now by sharing this message. I really want to receive feedbacks.

ONE YEAR OF NYSC (My Experience) day_4

SERVING MY FATHER LAND

“Youth obey the clarion call. Let us lift our nation high. Under the sun or in the rain. With dedication and selflessness. Nigeria is ours, Nigeria we serve.”

Anytime we sing the above NYSC Anthem, my heart is always fill with an undefeated passion for my dear Nation—Nigeria. My message for you today is that popular Philip Stanhope’s quote which says, ‘what is worth doing at all, is worth doing well’. We all clamour today that Nigeria is bad, and since she has nothing good to offer us, we too are not ready to offer anything good. What a wrong thinking! Truly Nigeria of today is bad and has not been fair at all. But should we fold our arms while watching our supposed great Nation to fall and collapse completely? If no, therefore, we must all rise up to answer the Clarion call and help to lift our dying Nation up. “Nigeria is ours, Nigeria we serve.”

My experience in NYSC has been a year of hardworking and great impartation. To the glory of God Almighty, I count it all joy whenever I look back and remember how many lives I have positively imparted. Though I may not be new in the act of teaching, because that was what I spent most of my time doing at the University. But NYSC has given me a once-in-a-lifetime privilege to move out as far as coming to Edo State to come and impart knowledge into this younger generation who mostly need such an assistance.

Serving in Edo State was a God-ordained plan. As I enjoyed my stay while contributing my quota to the development of my Father Land. I stayed in three different communities and served in two secondary schools, both as a Biology and Mathematics teacher during my one year of NYSC. As a writer and motivational speaker, I didn’t just go to class only to go and write note on the board, but I always do a lot of brotherly discussion with my students to open their eyes and mind to what they should know about life. I wasn’t surprise too much when a student suddenly adopt my pet name—Fabamssa. Another one decided to follow my footsteps to be a writer and a counselor. While many other always say they want to be like Corper Fabamssa. Always let your work speak for you. Nothing is as joyful as this.

At this junction, I want to confess that I actually enjoyed my stay in the communities where I served. They are all good, lovely and hospitable. I will always live to remember them because my life experienced great development and achievement during my one year of National Service. Before I finally drop my pen in today’s note, let me quickly reiterate that my message and advise remains, what is worth doing at all, is worth doing well’. Work hard and do it well. All is well!

Thanks for reading.

FIVE CRUCIAL THINGS TO KNOW!!!

Times are hard; people are going nuts because of the situation of things in the society. Graduates are frustrated as a result of the things happening around them.
Life is hard for people in this bracket; the economic recession does not favour them at all as those who sponsor them do not have enough money to throw around. Everyone seems to be in a tight corner as no one knows how terrible this phase will be and for how long it will last.
So when things get ugly and life becomes dull what do you do? Do you resort to joining bad gangs and doing things that will bring shame unto your family? Do you get suicidal and wish the world will come to an end? Or do you simply go on your knees in prayers to God?

Do you want to hear the good news that will turn your life around?

  10. South Africa couldn’t have ended apartheid & achieved Black rule if not for the leadership role Nigeria played.
  11. Of the 3 South African Presidents who ruled after apartheid, two of them once lived in Nigeria under asylum. 18. The first television station in Africa was NTA Ibadan (1960) long before Ireland has their RTE station.

Here is what CNN, BBC, Aljezeera and western media will not tell you about Nigerians:

  1. On the 7th May, 2016 at Howard University in Washington D.C history was made. Out of 96 graduating Doctor of Pharmacy candidates, 43 of them were Nigerians and out of 27 awards given, 16 went to Nigerians.

They will only tell you how Nigerians are scammers and cheats, how Nigerians are into drugs overseas et al. If you don’t blow your trumpet, no one will blow it for you. VIVA NAIJA!!!

  1. There are over 180,000,000 Nigerians world over and only less than 250,000 of this figure have traceable criminal records. This is about 0.14% of our entire national population in the last 20 years: nothing close to 1%. Shame on global media.

Listen Nigeria, dont let anybody woo you into believing that you are a criminal just because you are a Nigerian. Nigerians are NOT criminals. You are NOT a criminal. You are topnotch; second to none around the world. Be proud of Nigeria wherever you go. Take out your Passport with pride. Be proud of our GREEN HERITAGE. Be enthusiastic of our FUTURE GREATNESS.
