ONE YEAR OF NYSC (My Experience) day_5 [the concluding part]

AFTER NYSC WHAT NEXT?

What else should we give our Creator if not thanksgivings. Don’t let us feign ignorance of the things which have happened since the commencement of our one-year National Service voyage. Thinking back to 28th of October 2015, and trying to recall every moment from that date till today, will definitely fill your heart with nothing but gratification to the one who has been there for you and I; God is the reason why we could make it to this day which marks the end of the journey we embarked on one year ago. Personally, I return all glory to God Almighty. This write up may be long, but just try and read it to the end. And if you think is too long to read, always remember the person who wrote it.

Before I enter into the main business of the day, I would like to first clarify something. When I write, many people think in either of these two directions. First, this Guy don’t have work to do. Second, this boy call Gbadebo likes to show off. If you fall into any of the categories above, it is high time you clear your mind and free yourself, because, that’s just a total misconception. I only write to motivate as many youths who will read my write ups with a right mentality, extract and utilize the active ingredients embedded in them. Know something today, Gbadebo Dahunsi is a very busy person. No time for show off. I’m only doing what I know to do.

Now to the big question. Whether you are passing out today or you are still serving or you are still a student who wishes to wear the NYSC khaki one day, this question is for you. After NYSC, what will happen next? Have you ever ask yourself this question? Truly, gaining admission into the University is a great thing, being a graduate is a pride, and making it up to NYSC is an enviable  achievement in life. But let talk sense here. After all these stages, what is the next thing? I know the answer would vary. To some, master degree, while few may say wedding. But majority would converge at a pointing edge which is ‘good Job’.

Nigeria is bad, Nigeria is bad; you are collecting a constant monthly ‘allawee’, as a corps member. Whether enough or not enough; you still have something to manage. What we are saying now is that, when ‘allawee’ ceases, what next step would you take? It is my prophetic prayer that none of our good expectations will be cut short in Jesus name. Hear this. In the Nigeria of today, you cannot deny the fact that there is an urgent need for a Plan-B. I hope you understand better.

Therefore, this is my submit. Start thinking about what yo can do to help yourself. Look around you, identify a problem, then try to solve the problem. By solving problems, you will progress. Never try to be idle. This can cause a lot of havoc. Make sure you are doing something. Divorce every unfruitful relationship and marry to only the people who can help your vision.  And lastly but most importantly, have faith. This is very crucial. Believe that you will make it. Have faith that you will get your dream job, no matter what. And don’t forget to create jobs for the coming ones also. How? By using your God-given talent. SERVING MY FATHER LAND

“Youth obey the clarion call. Let us lift our nation high. Under the sun or in the rain. With dedication and selflessness. Nigeria is ours, Nigeria we serve.”

Anytime we sing the above NYSC Anthem, my heart is always fill with an undefeated passion for my dear Nation—Nigeria. My message for you today is that popular Philip Stanhope’s quote which says, ‘what is worth doing at all, is worth doing well’. We all clamour today that Nigeria is bad, and since she has nothing good to offer us, we too are not ready to offer anything good. What a wrong thinking! Truly Nigeria of today is bad and has not been fair at all. But should we fold our arms while watching our supposed great Nation to fall and collapse completely? If no, therefore, we must all rise up to answer the Clarion call and help to lift our dying Nation up. “Nigeria is ours, Nigeria we serve.”

My experience in NYSC has been a year of hardworking and great impartation. To the glory of God Almighty, I count it all joy whenever I look back and remember how many lives I have positively imparted. Though I may not be new in the act of teaching, because that was what I spent most of my time doing at the University. But NYSC has given me a once-in-a-lifetime privilege to move out as far as coming to Edo State to come and impart knowledge into this younger generation who mostly need such an assistance.

Serving in Edo State was a God-ordained plan. As I enjoyed my stay while contributing my quota to the development of my Father Land. I stayed in three different communities and served in two secondary schools, both as a Biology and Mathematics teacher during my one year of NYSC. As a writer and motivational speaker, I didn’t just go to class only to go and write note on the board, but I always do a lot of brotherly discussion with my students to open their eyes and mind to what they should know about life. I wasn’t surprise too much when a student suddenly adopt my pet name—Fabamssa. Another one decided to follow my footsteps to be a writer and a counselor. While many other always say they want to be like Corper Fabamssa. Always let your work speak for you. Nothing is as joyful as this.

At this junction, I want to confess that I actually enjoyed my stay in the communities where I served. They are all good, lovely and hospitable. I will always live to remember them because my life experienced great development and achievement during my one year of National Service. Before I finally drop my pen in today’s note, let me quickly reiterate that my message and advise remains, what is worth doing at all, is worth doing well’. Work hard and do it well. All is well!

Thanks for reading.

A DREAM COMES TRUE

“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who for the JOY that was SET before Him ENDURED the cross, DESPISING the shame, and is set down at the RIGHT HAND of the THRONE of God”—Heb.12:2.

Are you wondering if am preaching? Well, it’s because we need it at this point. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Blood of Jesus here, same blood there. I want you to know that Jesus didn’t just become great overnight, he worked for it. He endured sufferings, hardships, lots of humiliation, and he overlooked the shame. Why? The above Scriptural passage has the answer. “who for the JOY that was SET before Him”. He could see the bright future lying ahead of him. This worth emulating.

All the unpalatable experience and those discouraging challenges I faced during my undergraduate days were endured for the sake of my great dream. I can see that bright future lying ahead of me. I can perceive better days coming. Nothing could make me give up on my dream, not even a dream killer. So I was as strong as mount Zion in the midst of weakening circumstances. I later come to realise that truly, tough times don’t last but tough people do, because despite all the challenges, I graduated from the University without a single carryover for complete 10-semesters (5-years durational course). “Now you very close to my dream of wearing the KHAKI“, I said to myself.
Having fulfilled all the requirements for the award of Bachelor of Technology degree in Biochemistry, I was been mobilized for the National Service (BATCH B NYSC) in 2015. I got my call-up letter and discovered that I have been posted to Edo State, one of the three States I chose during online registration (the other two are: Ogun and Kwara States). As from the day I printed my call up letter, I was unable to sleep well in the night, just because I can’t wait to see myself in that Khaki and Jungle boot.
So on the 27th of October 2015, a day before the official opening of NYSC camp, I left Lagos with my luggage. And seeing myself at the NYSC camp in Okada, Edo State, was what no English word could fully express. The camp began the following day, and after a series of long queues, I finally get it. What? My Khaki. Crested vest, white Socks, NYSC cap and Jungle boot were handed over to me. What else can we call this? It’s a dream comes true. But that was not the end of the journey. What happened next? Find out in tomorrow’s post.

PURSUIT OF A GREAT DREAM

Calling it a great dream is never an over-emphasis, in fact, it is closer to an understatement. This is because before any young Nigerian could make his/her way up to NYSC, he/she must have passed through, if not a hell, atleast, a radiating-oven experience. Education they say, is the best legacy. So, achieving this kind of dream is indeed a great achievement in the history of mankind.

When the dream first came, I knew nothing about how to go about it. But one thing I know; I just want to wear that Khaki one day. And as we grow older, things began to appear clearer, and I discovered that one must spent yet, another six years in Secondary School after the six year of primary education. My primary School period was fun. Nothing like personal studying. No exam tension or fear of failure. What do we know then? Absolute nothing. Our daily routine ‘be like’, Wake up in the morning, Eat (sometimes no bathing), rush to School, listen to Stories, Play very well, go back home, Eat again, play satisfactorily, Eat again and play, play and play until Sleep comes into the scene.

But Secondary School was quite different. As we now study to avoid failure. Because if you fail certain subjects, you will be asked to repeat class. Who want to repeat? God forbid bad thing. But only hard work is the answer. Now the routine changed from what it used to be to what it should be. “Wake up, bath, eat, go to School, listen carefully to our teachers’ teachings, do class work, copy assignment, go home, eat, do assingnment, watch plates, take dinner and read until the nature demands rest”. Responsibility is now at its peak. At early stage of my secondary School, I’ve already purposed in my heart to go to the University to study Medicine & Surgery.

In the University, I encountered so much challenges that (figuratively),   a 200 pages book can not convey various difficuties and hardships I battled with as an undergraduate and as a Biochemistry student in Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Firstly, I battled with a change of direction from the desired Medicine & Surgery to Biochemistry. I later fall in love with it and never regret studying Biochemstry. Secondly, I struggled with a bad and shameful 100 level result. I conquered this by changing my reading habit and studying harder. What about financial incapability which imposed serious sufferings? But with all these, God helped me to make it to 500 level (final year). As if that was the end. But another antagonist arose which I would like to keep for now. Find out what happened next.  “If you have a dream, don’t give up on it but always press forward because you will get there one day”-Gbadebo Dahunsi. It is just a matter of time. Have faith back with patience and pray as you work hard. You will soon be celebrated.

ONE YEAR OF NYSC(My Experience) day_1

 A LONG-TIME DREAM

Dream, as defined by Sam Adeyemi (CEO, Success Power Media), is a MENTAL PICTURE of a PREFERABLE FUTURE. You will definitely concor with me that before we could have a picture, there must be an Object to be Captured. Similarly, before anyone could have a dream, a vision or an ambition, there must be something to stimulate his/her Medulla Oblongata and usher his/her mentality towards the direction of a desired future. Just of recent, I posted on my blog page that, “Dream is not what you see while sleeping in the night; rather, dream is the ‘WHY’ you can not sleep in the night”. A person without dream is in no way different from a wondering wave which dances to every tone of the wind.

Dream usually metamorphose to Vision, and a clear vision of a desired future gives strength and maintains a high morale to always push forward, no matter how gigantic the Obstacles may be. A man with Vision will never give up to hardship, difficulty, failure or any other challenges. This is because he can see that bright future right from this present. And he would do anything to get there. I beleive that nobody found him/her-self in NYSC accidentally or overnight. No! What you are celebratimg today began long time ago. A journey of a thousand Miles begins with a single step”.

As a person who grew up in the village, I never had enough opportunity to see those Young and Vibrant Nigerians who usually dress in their NYSC kit. No wonder something remarkable happened the very first time I set my eyes on them. A strong and unrestricted impulse was sent to my brain through a series of interconnected neurons across many pre- and post-ganglionic axons, overcoming the gap created by synapses, with the help of neurotransmitters such as ‘acetyl choline’. Hope you are not lost? (Don’t mind me, I’m only displaying my Biochemistry knowledge).

Who are those people? I asked myself. They are graduates; who have completed a degree program in the University. Wow! I love their appearance, they look smart in their (seemingly) military outfits. People love them, they always shout to call their attention; Ajuaya! Or Corpers wee! I also want to wear that dress when I grow up. In fact, I must wear it. I also want people to shout ‘AJUAYA’ when they see me passing by” That was how I concieved the dream to be a ‘corper’ . This happened long time ago, even though I knew nothing about what and what it takes to wear the Khaki. But all I wanted was to wear the Khaki, Crested Vest, Jungle boot and NYSC cap. That was my dream many years ago. How did I keep to this dream until it happened? Find out!

FIVE CRUCIAL THINGS TO KNOW!!!

Times are hard; people are going nuts because of the situation of things in the society. Graduates are frustrated as a result of the things happening around them.
Life is hard for people in this bracket; the economic recession does not favour them at all as those who sponsor them do not have enough money to throw around. Everyone seems to be in a tight corner as no one knows how terrible this phase will be and for how long it will last.
So when things get ugly and life becomes dull what do you do? Do you resort to joining bad gangs and doing things that will bring shame unto your family? Do you get suicidal and wish the world will come to an end? Or do you simply go on your knees in prayers to God?
